What the unit converters cover
There are 150 converter pages here, one per common pair, grouped by quantity: length (metres and feet, inches and centimetres, kilometres and miles), mass (kilograms and pounds, grams and ounces), temperature (Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin), area, volume, speed, data storage, time, pressure, energy, power, frequency, angle and fuel economy, including regional land units such as bigha, guntha and kanal.
Every factor is the defined one, not a textbook approximation. The inch has been exactly 25.4 mm since the 1959 international agreement; the mile is exactly 1.609344 km; where a unit depends on a measured constant, the current CODATA or IAU value is used. Each page states the factor it applies and lets you pick any pair within the same quantity from the dropdowns, so the 150 pages are entry points into one consistent table rather than 150 separate tools.
Two cases that are not simple multiplication
- Temperature scales have different zero points, so Celsius to Fahrenheit is a scale plus an offset. You cannot convert a temperature difference with the same formula you use for a temperature.
- Fuel economy in litres per 100 km and miles per gallon are reciprocals, and the US and imperial gallons are different sizes. Halving one does not halve the other.
- Convert once from the original figure. Chaining conversions compounds rounding.
