- Population density figures (people per square mile vs. people per square kilometre) differ by this same squared factor, so a density comparison across two sources needs this conversion applied correctly, not the linear mile factor.
- Because the area factor is the linear factor squared, a country that is "twice as wide" in linear terms covers roughly four times the area, worth remembering when eyeballing relative country sizes from a map.
