What the KM/H to MPH does
KM/H to MPH: 1 km/h = 0.62137119 mph, so multiply a kilometre per hour value by 0.62137119 to get mile per hour, or divide to go back. Example: 100 km/h = 62.13711922 mph.
Point it at Value, From and To and it returns Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion. Each change is reflected immediately, which suits quick what-if comparisons.
Two industries often use the same word for slightly different quantities. The KM/H to MPH exists to take that particular chore off your hands.
No sign-up, no data collection, no processing queue, just code running locally.

What do the KM/H to MPH fields mean?
The KM/H to MPH uses 3 inputs. Starting values are already in place, which saves the usual blank-form hesitation about what a field wants.
| Field | What to enter | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Value | required | 100 |
| From | choose from Metre per second (m/s), Kilometre per hour (km/h), Mile per hour (mph), Foot per second (ft/s), Knot (kn) or Mach (at sea level, 15 °C) (Mach) | Kilometre per hour (km/h) |
| To | choose from Metre per second (m/s), Kilometre per hour (km/h), Mile per hour (mph), Foot per second (ft/s), Knot (kn) or Mach (at sea level, 15 °C) (Mach) | Mile per hour (mph) |
How does the KM/H to MPH work?
Both units are converted through speed's base unit (m/s), so any of the 7 units in the dropdowns can be paired in either direction without loss of accuracy.
Definitions are taken from the SI system where one exists, and from CODATA or the IAU where a unit is established by measurement. No factor is rounded before the calculation.
Worked example
These are the values the KM/H to MPH loads by default, and the result it produces from them. The figures are the tool’s live defaults and its live output, so you can reproduce them exactly.
| Value | 100 |
|---|---|
| From | Kilometre per hour (km/h) |
| To | Mile per hour (mph) |
| Result | 62.13711922 mph |
|---|---|
| How it was calculated | 1 km/h = 0.62137119 mph, so 100 × 0.62137119 = 62.13711922 mph |
| Reverse conversion | 160.9344 km/h (if you meant 100 mph) |
Kilometres per hour and miles per hour
1 mph equals exactly 1.609344 km/h: the same exact constant used for the km/mile distance conversion, since speed is just distance divided by time.
Worth knowing
- Quick mental math: divide km/h by 1.6 to estimate mph, or multiply mph by 1.6 to estimate km/h, accurate to within about 0.6%, plenty precise for reading a foreign speed limit sign at a glance.
- Road speed limits switch abruptly at national borders (much of Europe and most of the world uses km/h; the US, UK and Myanmar use mph). A driver crossing into a new country needs to recalibrate their sense of speed immediately, not gradually.
- A useful benchmark: 100 km/h is about 62 mph, and 60 mph is about 97 km/h. Close enough to 100 km/h that the two are sometimes casually (and incorrectly) treated as equivalent highway speeds.

How to use it
- Enter Value.
- Pick a value for From: the options are Metre per second (m/s), Kilometre per hour (km/h), Mile per hour (mph), Foot per second (ft/s), Knot (kn) or Mach (at sea level, 15 °C) (Mach).
- Pick a value for To: the options are Metre per second (m/s), Kilometre per hour (km/h), Mile per hour (mph), Foot per second (ft/s), Knot (kn) or Mach (at sea level, 15 °C) (Mach).
- The result appears as you type. There is no button to press.
- You get Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion back.
- The link encodes your inputs, so saving it is enough to reproduce the result later.
What this tool does not do
- Repeated conversions compound rounding, so convert once from the original value where you can.
- Conversion factors use SI definitions; some industries use their own rounded factors.
- Results are informational: check anything consequential against a second source.
- Results are only as good as the inputs. Check your units before reading anything into the output.
Frequently asked questions
Only Value, From and To. Defaults are loaded for all of them, which means a single edit is enough to get a meaningful answer.
With the values loaded when the page opens, result comes out as 62.13711922 mph. That number tracks the inputs, so a small edit shows its sensitivity immediately.
It is not stored or transmitted. The calculation happens locally and leaves no trace with us.
