What the FD Calculator does

FD Calculator: calculates Maturity / Total Received, Interest Earned and Periodic Payout (non-cumulative) from Principal, Interest Rate and Tenure. Formula: A = P x (1 + r/n)^(n x t). Example: principal 100000 ₹, interest rate 6.5 % p.a. and tenure 3 years gives maturity / total received ₹1,21,340.76.

The FD Calculator turns Principal, Interest Rate, Tenure and Compounding into Maturity / Total Received, Interest Earned and Periodic Payout (non-cumulative). Values update as you type, so comparing options is a matter of editing one field.

Typical users are anyone weighing up a loan. Small differences in rate or term compound into large differences in what you actually pay.

The work is done by JavaScript already loaded in your browser, so your input never crosses the network.

Everything needed to verify a result is further down: the fields, the method and one fully worked example.

What do the FD Calculator fields mean?

The FD Calculator uses 6 inputs. Nothing is blank on load, so you can see the shape of the answer before supplying your own figures.

FieldWhat to enterDefault
Principal measured in ₹ 100000
Interest Rate measured in % p.a. 6.5
Tenure measured in years 3
Compounding choose from Quarterly, Half-Yearly, Yearly or Monthly Quarterly
Interest Payout choose from Cumulative (reinvested, paid at maturity), Monthly payout, Quarterly payout or Yearly payout Cumulative (reinvested, paid at maturity)
Senior Citizen (60+) choose from No or Yes No

How does the FD Calculator work?

A = P x (1 + r/n)^(n x t)

n is how many times interest is compounded per year, so a higher n produces a larger maturity value for the same nominal rate.

Validation runs before the calculation, which is why a mistyped value shows an error rather than a plausible-looking result.

  3. Type Tenure in years.
  4. Pick a value for Compounding: the options are Quarterly, Half-Yearly, Yearly or Monthly.

  6. Pick a value for Senior Citizen (60+): the options are No or Yes.
  7. No confirmation step: what you type is what gets calculated.

  9. Print gives a tidy version without the navigation, which is handy for attaching to a file.

What this tool does not do

  • Rates are treated as fixed for the whole term; a floating rate will change the outcome.
  • Fees, processing charges and taxes are not included unless there is a field for them.
  • It handles the common case well and the unusual case literally.
  • A number that passes validation has been checked for plausibility, not for correctness.

It is precise to the method and honest about its scope: no calculator can know your eligibility, and eligibility is what usually moves the final number.
