What the Weight Converter does
Weight Converter: 1 kg = 2.204622622 lb, so multiply a kilogram value by 2.204622622 to get pound, or divide to go back. Example: 1 kg = 2.204622622 lb.
This converter reads Value, From and To and produces Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion. Everything recomputes live, which makes it easy to test a few scenarios in a row.
Unit mistakes are quietly expensive. They have wrecked spacecraft and ruined recipes alike. The Weight Converter exists to take that particular chore off your hands.
Your data stays on your machine. Once the page has loaded you could disconnect entirely and it would still work.
Each field is explained further down, along with the method and a worked example that uses the default values.
What do the Weight Converter fields mean?
The Weight Converter uses 3 inputs. The fields arrive populated, which makes it easy to nudge a single figure and watch what moves.
| Field | What to enter | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Value | required | 1 |
| From | choose from Microgram (µg), Milligram (mg), Gram (g), Kilogram (kg), Tonne (metric ton) (t) or Grain (gr) | Kilogram (kg) |
| To | choose from Microgram (µg), Milligram (mg), Gram (g), Kilogram (kg), Tonne (metric ton) (t) or Grain (gr) | Pound (lb) |
How does the Weight Converter work?
Both units are converted through mass's base unit (kg), so any of the 13 units in the dropdowns can be paired in either direction without loss of accuracy.
Every factor here is the defined one, not a textbook approximation. That matters more than it sounds: rounding a factor early is the usual reason two converters disagree in the fourth decimal place.
Worked example
These are the values the Weight Converter loads by default, and the result it produces from them. The numbers below come straight from the default inputs, so you can verify them against the live tool.
| Value | 1 |
|---|---|
| From | Kilogram (kg) |
| To | Pound (lb) |
| Result | 2.204622622 lb |
|---|---|
| How it was calculated | 1 kg = 2.204622622 lb, so 1 × 2.204622622 = 2.204622622 lb |
| Reverse conversion | 0.45359237 kg (if you meant 1 lb) |
Mass vs. weight
Every unit on this page (kilograms, pounds, ounces, stone) is technically a unit of mass, not weight. Mass is an invariant property of an object; weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass, and it changes with location (an astronaut has the same mass on the Moon as on Earth, but about one-sixth the weight).
Worth knowing
- In everyday language "weight" and "mass" are used interchangeably, and for anything staying on Earth’s surface that causes no practical problem. This converter, like a bathroom scale, is really reporting mass.
- The distinction matters in physics and engineering contexts (orbital mechanics, comparing forces) but essentially never in cooking, shipping or body-weight tracking, which is why casual usage isn’t "wrong" so much as imprecise.
- Where a genuine force unit is needed instead of mass, look for the dedicated force converters (newton, pound-force, kilogram-force) rather than this mass-based page.

How to use it
- Set Value.
- Pick a value for From: the options are Microgram (µg), Milligram (mg), Gram (g), Kilogram (kg), Tonne (metric ton) (t) or Grain (gr).
- Pick a value for To: the options are Microgram (µg), Milligram (mg), Gram (g), Kilogram (kg), Tonne (metric ton) (t) or Grain (gr).
- Skip the submit button; there is not one. Editing is enough.
- Check Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion on the right.
- To keep the result, either copy the link or print the page. Both preserve what is on screen.
What this tool does not do
- Factors use the internationally agreed definitions; some industries round them differently.
- Repeated conversions compound rounding, so convert once from the original value where you can.
- It handles the common case well and the unusual case literally.
- The result inherits any error in the inputs without flagging it.
Frequently asked questions
3 things: Value, From and To. Defaults are loaded for all of them, so the quickest approach is to replace the one number you actually care about.
With the values loaded when the page opens, result comes out as 2.204622622 lb. Try changing one value. The answer refreshes without a page reload.
It never leaves the tab. The page does the work itself rather than asking a server to.
It is free with no conditions: no sign-up, and no limit on how often you use it.
