What the Mass Flow Rate Converter does
Mass Flow Rate Converter: 1 kg/s = 2.204622622 lb/s, so multiply a kilogram per second value by 2.204622622 to get pound per second, or divide to go back. Example: 1 kg/s = 2.204622622 lb/s.
Feed it Value, From and To; it hands back Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion. Everything recomputes live, which makes it easy to test a few scenarios in a row.
Unit mistakes are quietly expensive. They have wrecked spacecraft and ruined recipes alike. The Mass Flow Rate Converter exists to take that particular chore off your hands.
Your data stays on your machine. Once the page has loaded you could disconnect entirely and it would still work.
Below the tool you will find the field reference, the method, and an example computed from the values it opens with.
What do the Mass Flow Rate Converter fields mean?
The Mass Flow Rate Converter uses 3 inputs. The fields arrive populated, which makes it easy to nudge a single figure and watch what moves.
| Field | What to enter | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Value | required | 1 |
| From | choose from Kilogram per second (kg/s), Kilogram per hour (kg/h), Gram per second (g/s), Tonne per hour (t/h), Pound per second (lb/s) or Pound per hour (lb/h) | Kilogram per second (kg/s) |
| To | choose from Kilogram per second (kg/s), Kilogram per hour (kg/h), Gram per second (g/s), Tonne per hour (t/h), Pound per second (lb/s) or Pound per hour (lb/h) | Pound per second (lb/s) |
How does the Mass Flow Rate Converter work?
Both units are converted through mass flow rate's base unit (kg/s), so any of the 6 units in the dropdowns can be paired in either direction without loss of accuracy.
Exact definitions are preferred throughout: the metre, the inch and the pound all have them. Only where a unit depends on a measured constant is an accepted published value substituted.
Worked example
These are the values the Mass Flow Rate Converter loads by default, and the result it produces from them. The numbers below come straight from the default inputs, so you can verify them against the live tool.
| Value | 1 |
|---|---|
| From | Kilogram per second (kg/s) |
| To | Pound per second (lb/s) |
| Result | 2.204622622 lb/s |
|---|---|
| How it was calculated | 1 kg/s = 2.204622622 lb/s, so 1 × 2.204622622 = 2.204622622 lb/s |
| Reverse conversion | 0.45359237 kg/s (if you meant 1 lb/s) |
Mass flow rate
Mass flow rate measures how much mass moves past a point per unit time (kilograms per second, tonnes per hour, and so on). A genuinely different quantity from volumetric flow rate, and the preferred measurement in industrial process engineering specifically because mass doesn’t change when a gas or liquid expands or contracts with temperature and pressure.
Worth knowing
- A volumetric flow rate (litres per minute, for instance) can represent very different masses of material depending on the fluid’s density and how that density shifts with temperature or pressure. Mass flow rate avoids that ambiguity entirely, which is why chemical and industrial processes often specify it directly instead.
- Natural gas pipeline flows are commonly measured this way in industrial contexts, since gas volume is highly sensitive to pressure and temperature, but the actual mass of gas delivered is what matters for billing and combustion calculations.
- US engineering contexts sometimes use pounds per second or pounds per hour for mass flow, while most of the rest of the world uses kilograms per second or tonnes per hour. The same general unit-system split seen throughout this converter category.

How to use it
- Type Value.
- Pick a value for From: the options are Kilogram per second (kg/s), Kilogram per hour (kg/h), Gram per second (g/s), Tonne per hour (t/h), Pound per second (lb/s) or Pound per hour (lb/h).
- Pick a value for To: the options are Kilogram per second (kg/s), Kilogram per hour (kg/h), Gram per second (g/s), Tonne per hour (t/h), Pound per second (lb/s) or Pound per hour (lb/h).
- No submit step is needed; the output updates while you edit.
- Look at Result, How it was calculated and Reverse conversion in the output panel.
- To keep the result, either copy the link or print the page. Both preserve what is on screen.
What this tool does not do
- Factors use the internationally agreed definitions; some industries round them differently.
- Repeated conversions compound rounding, so convert once from the original value where you can.
- It will not warn you that a different tool would suit your question better.
- Nothing here can catch a correct number entered in the wrong field.
