What the HIIT Calorie Calculator does

HIIT Calorie Calculator: calculates Calories Burned, Burn Rate (kcal/hour) and MET Used from Your Weight, Duration and Intensity (MET). Example: your weight 70 kg, duration 30 minutes and intensity (MET) 12 gives calories burned 420.

Feed it Your Weight, Duration and Intensity (MET); it hands back Calories Burned, Burn Rate (kcal/hour) and MET Used. Adjust anything and the figures re-derive on the spot.

Most people who open the HIIT Calorie Calculator are anyone curious about a reading. Population formulas give you a starting point, not a verdict about your body.

Your data stays on your machine. Once the page has loaded you could disconnect entirely and it would still work.

Below the tool you will find the field reference, the method, and an example computed from the values it opens with.

What do the HIIT Calorie Calculator fields mean?

The HIIT Calorie Calculator uses 3 inputs. The page opens in a usable state: real values in, real answer out, ready to edit.

FieldWhat to enterDefault
Your Weight measured in kg; accepts 30 to 200 70
Duration measured in minutes; accepts 1 to 480 30
Intensity (MET) accepts 1 to 20 12

How does the HIIT Calorie Calculator work?

Calories Burned, Burn Rate (kcal/hour), MET Used and Summary ← f(Your Weight, Duration, Intensity (MET))

Each output is derived from the inputs above in a single pass; there is no hidden state carried between runs, so the same inputs always give the same calculation.

Bad input produces a message, not a silently incorrect figure.

Worked example

These are the values the HIIT Calorie Calculator loads by default, and the result it produces from them. Below is the same computation the tool performs on load, step by step.

MET values for hiit

HIIT figures are harder to pin down than steady-state activities because the intensity is by definition intermittent. The MET value is an average across work and rest, so a session with longer rests genuinely scores lower.

HIITMET30 min at 70 kg
Circuit training, moderate5.0184 kcal
General vigorous calisthenics8.0294 kcal
HIIT, typical class8.0294 kcal
Vigorous interval work10.0368 kcal
Burpees / high-intensity plyometrics12.0441 kcal

MET values are from the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities (Ainsworth et al., Med Sci Sports Exerc 43(8):1575-81). One MET is the energy cost of sitting quietly, roughly 3.5 ml of oxygen per kilogram per minute.

What changes the number

  • The MET average includes recovery periods. A 20-minute session with 40 seconds work and 20 seconds rest is not 20 minutes at peak intensity.
  • EPOC, the elevated metabolic rate after intense exercise, adds something, but published estimates put it at roughly 6-15% of the session total, not the large figure often claimed.
  • Because rest ratios vary so much between programmes, HIIT estimates carry a wider error bar than steady-state activities.
  • Total work done still governs total energy cost. Intensity changes how long you can sustain it, not the underlying arithmetic.

These figures are population averages. Individual variation of 10–20% is normal, and the compendium itself is drawn from studies with modest sample sizes. Use the result to compare activities against each other, which it does well, rather than as an exact measure of what you personally burned.

How to use it

  1. Type Your Weight in kg (30 to 200).
  2. Enter Duration in minutes (1 to 480).
  3. Set Intensity (MET) (1 to 20).
  4. No submit step is needed; the output updates while you edit.
  5. Look at Calories Burned, Burn Rate (kcal/hour), MET Used and Summary in the output panel.
  6. Copy Link when you want to return to this exact configuration; Print when someone needs it on paper.

What this tool does not do

  • This is a screening estimate, not a diagnosis.
  • Body composition, ethnicity and age all shift what a "normal" result means.
  • Precision beyond what the inputs justify is not meaningful, however many digits appear.
  • Nothing here can catch a correct number entered in the wrong field.

Frequently asked questions

Enter Your Weight in kg and Duration in minutes. Both the inputs and the result are explicitly labelled, so mixed units cannot slip through unnoticed.

Your Weight accepts 30 to 200 kg. Anything beyond those bounds is flagged rather than approximated.

With the values loaded when the page opens, calories burned comes out as 420. Adjust any field to see how much the answer depends on it.

No. Disconnect from the internet and it still works; that is the simplest proof there is no server call.

No charge. Everything on the page is available without signing in.

The computation is exact. What it is computing is a population average, which is a different thing from a fact about you, so read the number as a prompt to ask a better question.
